Pilgrimage History
Our Beginnings
Growth of Cursillo Method programs within the Presbyterian Church branched from these beginnings:
The Peaks Cursillo Community (formerly Fincastle Presbyterian Cursillo) sponsored the James Presbyterian Cursillo in 1991. The Charleston community sponsored Oklahoma Presbyterian Cursillo in 1993. The Peaks Community sponsored Shenandoah Presbyterian Pilgrimage in 1994.
The Oklahoma and Charleston Communities co-sponsored Georgia Presbyterian Cursillo in 1995, choosing to continue with the weekend even though the tragic bombing of the Murrah building took place while the staff was gathering in Georgia.
Oklahoma sponsored communities in Austin and Houston,Tx in 1996 and Palo Duro Texas 1997.
Since that first weekend in 1985, 30 communities in the US have been formed. Oklahoma Presbyterian Pilgrimage has sponsored 10 of those and 6 of our sponsored communities have in turn sponsored communities as well.
